About the Event

Come and enjoy this free community event to celebrate the opening of the Taylor Yard Pedestrian Bridge and the joining of two communities: Elysian Valley and Cypress Park!

The festivities start at 6:00 pm with a performance by Mariachi La Victoria at the bridge, then enjoy presentations by Xipe Totec (Aztec Dance), Modern Dance by MASH UP Contemporary Dance Company, live art projections by Projected Visions, light bottle art by Jeanie K and more. The performances are strolling and moving-there will be no official stage! It's a moving, flowing event.

Enjoy free food (first 200 people) from Epic Tacos, visit our S'mores making station (first come, first served-200 people)  and our Literary Lounge featuring writers, poets, music and a few surprises.

Stroll or bike along the shared pedestrian and bike path and "bring the light" (see more below).

We're ending the evening at the Frogtown Brewery with the Angelo Metz Jazz Trio.

All made possible in part by a grant from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Illuminate the Night...what does it mean?

Well, it means that we'd like you to "bring the light."

We've all lived through some pretty dark and challenging times over the past two years. As we reemerge back into life outside of our homes, including in-person events, we'd like to "bring a little light" with us as we celebrate the opening of the Taylor Yard Bridge and the joining of two communities: Elysian Valley and Cypress Park.

So, if you're coming to our celebration, we encourage you to "bring the light," by wearing it on your body, carrying a light with you, decorating your bike or stroller with lights, throwing some lights on to your fence if you have a space or business along the shared pedestrian and bike path. Hang some lanterns in your trees or put out some luminary bags. You get the picture-we want to see your light shine!

Some tips: No hanging anything on the bridge. Use solar or battery powered lighting when possible, no open flame on displays. Please use rideshare services, ride your bike or walk to the event. Parking is tight and we want to be respectful of our neighorhood.  Be safe and courteous while we "Illuminate the Night."

Best and closest street entrances on the the LA River Greenway Trail (a shared pedestrian & bike path):

Elysian Valley: Knox Ave, Newell Street and Dallas Street-head South once entering the trail. Riverdale Ave, Meadowvale Ave, Harwood Street and Gatewood Street-Head North once you enter the trail.

From Cypress Park: Metrolink Central Maintenance - 1555 N. San Fernando Road is the best address to use.

Look for the bridge- it's big, it's orange! See you there!
