About the Event

Join Elysian Valley Arts Collective artist-in-residence, Katrina Alexy, every Tuesday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for an all day, drop in, art studio session at The Blake Lofts, in the Community Room in Frogtown. (Enter the venue from the back entrance via the LA River Bike & Pedestrian Path. Park near Newell Street to the North and Dallas Street to the South, enter the bike path and follow signs to the venue. Special arrangements can be made for those who cannot walk from the bike path to the venue. To arrange entrance via the front of the venue, email evartscollective@gmail.com).

Learn various mosaic techniques starting with smaller pieces and working up to a larger community-based mosaic art piece. The first gathering will be September 12, 2023 with an introduction to the program at 10:00 am, and a flexible, open studio with drop in hours from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for the duration of the residency, Tuesdays, beginning September 12th until December 19, 2023.

The workshops are limited to 12 people and will be similar to a quilting bee; learning to piece together various tiled "quilts" all while having time to focus on creativity, sharing  and community. A waitlist will be created if more than 12 people sign up for these workshops.

This residency and workshops are funded by the Picerne Family Foundation Artist Outreach Project. This program is a free program provided to seniors at no charge. Please, only sign up if you can commit to the four month session or at least most of it.

Our instructor is artist Katrina Alexy. She has been creating art and instructing others for over thirty years; specializing in art for community enjoyment, created mainly from materials that might otherwise find their way into a landfill. She has shown her artwork in galleries throughout California. Her permanent public art pieces can be seen in several locations around Los Angeles including at The Edendale Library, The Graham Walkway near Firestone Blvd., the corner of Echo Park Avenue and Sunset Blvd, and on Glendale Blvd. in Atwater Village, to name a few.
