About Shonda Buchanan:

Shonda Buchanan, a writer, educator and speaker, whose recent book “Black Indian-A Memoir” explores her family’s legacy of being African American with American Indian roots and how they dealt with societal ostracization and the consequences of their dual inheritance. NPR has named her book a “must read” of recent Black American literature. As an educator, she has taught Creative Writing, Composition and Critical Theory at Loyola Marymount University, Hampton University and William & Mary College for the past eighteen years. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of Beyond Baroque - Literary | Arts Center.

  • Rhythm and Meter
  • What makes a poem work?
  • Sign up for suggested reading list

What you'll need:

  • Pen and paper or electronic device on hand to take down notes and writing prompts

This workshop is great for adults as well as budding young writers -- a perfectly entertaining evening for everyone in the family. All ages are welcome.  

About Rex Weiner: Rex is an investigative journalist, author and reporter on contemporary culture; writing for many publications in the US and Europe. He’s known as the author of The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, which was turned into the controversial Andrew Dice Clay vehicle in 1990. Those original stories have been published recently by Rare Bird Books as The (Original) Adventures of Ford Fairlane: The Long Lost Rock n’ Roll Detective Stories. Rex is a co-founder and executive director of the Todos Santos Writers Workshop.   He hosts the author interview series I READ YOUR BOOK AND..., based at Beyond Baroque, the LA literary center where he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees.
